About

In concert, Farah combines the piano with synthesizers and electronics, moving freely between improvisations, soundscapes and driving beats and rhythms, referring to his unique genre of music as “Baroque-Middle-Eastern-Cyberpunk.”

For Farah, each concert is a uniquely unfolding tapestry, an imaginative experience for the listener to immerse themselves deeply in. Drawing inspiration from Arabic music, European classical music, experimental improvisation and all forms of electronic music, he creates a sound world in which ambient electronic loops transform into Baroque fugues, which break into improvisations over breakbeats of Middle-Eastern percussion.

About John Kameel Farah

One of Canada’s most creative and imaginative pianists, John Kameel Farah‘s music embraces aspects of Baroque and early music, Middle-Eastern music, improvisation and electronic music. He studied at the University of Toronto, where he received the Glenn Gould Composition Award twice.

In 2023, he received the Johanna Metcalf Award for the Performing Arts from the Metcalf Foundation and was a guest-performer with Tangerine Dream in Toronto. He has performed Bach’s complete Well-Tempered Clavier, and earlier this year performed his own works at the Berlin Philharmonic. Farah is doing a residency with the National Arts Centre, writing a piano concerto which he will perform with the National Arts Centre Orchestra in 2025.
