About
Ensemble Jeng Yi will perform a program featuring traditional pieces and original compositions for Korean percussion. They will be joined by frequent collaborator Joo Hyung Kim on the Kayagum, the Korean zither. She will be performing on a special custom-made steel-string zither. Ensemble Jeng Yi will begin the performance not on the stage, but at a distance, from where they will approach, drumming and marching, in the spirit of itinerant bands of old Korea. Upon their arrival, the members will perform a brief “gate cleansing ritual” complete with energetic hollers and percussive clangour, ensuring no evil spirits enter the audience area. Once completed, the cast will complete their procession to the stage, where they will share the next hour with the audience.
