About Melissa Davis
As the Canadian premiering artist of Peter Ashbourne’s Jamaican classical art song cycle, “Fi Mi Love Have Lion Heart,” Melissa Davis released her live solo debut album, City Called Heaven: An Evening of Songs and Spirituals, including the cycle in 2015. A concert soloist, vocal professor, choral director and vocal clinician, Melissa Davis is the Canadian premiering artist of Peter Ashbourne’s Jamaican classical art song cycle, “Fi Mi Love Have Lion Heart.” Awarded the distinguished Debut Artist Award by the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, Illinois, Davis has guest soloed with Grammy and JUNO Award-winning choirs and orchestras including the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. She has toured internationally singing in France, Wales, the Caribbean and throughout North America in concert and opera productions. In 2015, Ms. Davis released her live solo debut album, City Called Heaven: An Evening of Songs and Spirituals, with gospel and classical favourites, and continues her work in these genres as Assistant Professor and Head of Vocal Performance at York University.
