Mixed Media – Storytelling

How can learning to tell a story help you express yourself?

Program Description

Inspired by one of Jamaica’s famous storytellers – Louise Bennett-Coverley, fondly known as “Miss Lou” – our storytelling program will begin with discussing the importance of sharing stories to learn about ourselves and others. Next, students will hear a favourite story of Miss Lou to honour her legacy. Students will then create their accordion book, which will be sent back to school with blank pages to capture any story your students would like to share!

Program Objectives

By the end of the Mixed Media – Storytelling program, students will:

  • Learn about the origins of oral storytelling and the work of Miss Louise Bennett-Coverley.
  • Participate in activities to gain an understanding of the cultural importance of storytelling.
  • Create their own accordion book.
