About
Please note: tonight’s Dancing on the Square has been moved to the Lakeside Terrace.
Kick things off with a fun, beginner-friendly dance class – no partner or experience needed. Then, hit the floor and dance the night away to infectious rhythms straight from Brazil’s northeast.
Forró is a lively and passionate Brazilian dance and music genre originating in the northeast of Brazil. It’s a couple’s dance characterized by close proximity and connection, with variations in dance style and rhythm across different regions of Brazil and the world.
In your first encounter with forró, we will gently guide you into this soulful Brazilian partner dance by awakening your body awareness through a mix of solo and partner exercises. You will learn how to transfer weight mindfully, stay connected to the tempo and begin to move with intention and flow. Introducing the two fundamental base steps of forró, with special attention to the embrace (or frame), we will focus on posture, arm placement and key points of body contact.
7–7:45pm: Dance Class*
8–9:45pm: Live Band
*A Free Ticket is required to attend the evening. Tickets are currently sold out for this event. There will be a stand-by line.
This event is rain or shine!
