Our Main Building and galleries will not be open to the public for Nuit Blanche. Access to “Hopes and Fears Assembly” will be on the northwest side of the Main Building.

Seasonal Program – Waterfront Explorations

How can Harbourfront Centre’s unique waterfront location provide inspiration for artistic expression? 

Program Description 

Our 10-acre campus provides a picturesque background for our outdoor Waterfront Explorations, especially once spring weather arrives!  These programs are taught in our outdoor event tents and provide you and your students with the chance to participate in an unforgettable end of year field trip! 

Pair one Visual Arts and one Urban Studies program together for a full-day experience. Half-day programs are available upon request. Choose from the following:

I: Visual Arts (Choose one) 

  1. Clay Fish (K-Grade 6) 

Students will learn about the Great Lakes and the needs of all living things as a starting point to create their clay fish.  They will also learn about the properties of clay and explore hand-building techniques while they create their unique fish! 

  1. Clay Underwater Creatures (Grades 4-8) 

Students will learn about habitats and discuss human-environment interactions in the Great Lakes ecosystem as a starting point to create their underwater creatures.  Students will also learn about the properties of clay and explore hand building techniques while they create their imaginary underwater creatures! 

II: Urban Studies (Choose one) 

  1. Discover the Waterfront Community Walk (K-Grade 3) 

Students will learn about the basic needs of communities in general and identify how the surrounding area ensures that all members of Harbourfront Centre’s community are able to meet their basic needs! 

  1. Discover the Waterfront Habitat Walk (Grades 4-6) 

Students will learn about habitats, conservations of resources and/or biodiversity while exploring Harbourfront Centre’s campus.  They will critically examine human-environment interactions and consider multiple perspectives on development along Toronto’s waterfront. 

  1. Mapping and Orienteering (Grades 4-8) 

Students will learn about maps and mapping conventions as a starting point to explore Harbourfront Centre’s campus.  Students will participate in a series of activities that will put their orienteering skills to work! 

Please note: you cannot combine Waterfront Explorations programs with School Visits programs when booking.
