Program Description

Inspired by one of Jamaica’s famous storytellers – Louise Bennett-Coverley, fondly known as “Miss Lou” – our storytelling program will begin with discussing the importance of sharing stories to learn about ourselves and others.

Next, students will hear a favourite story of Miss Lou to honour her legacy. Students will then be guided through a series of drama activities designed to explore character development.

Lastly, students will create their accordion book, which will be sent back to school with blank pages to capture any story your students would like to share.

Program Objectives

By the end of the Drama/Mixed Media – Storytelling program, students will:

  • Learn about the origins of oral storytelling and the work of Miss Louise Bennett-Coverley.
  • Participate in activities to gain an understanding of the cultural importance of storytelling and character building.
  • Create their own accordion book.
