We are currently looking to bring on board several reliable, diligent and collaborative Grounds Crew to perform a variety of site maintenance and upkeep activities on our 10-acre campus (landscaping, waste management, repairs and maintenance, event setups/strikes, etc.) in support of a welcoming visitor experience and of our programs and events.
Position Title: Grounds Crew
Department: Site Operations
Reporting To: Sr. Manager, Site Operations
Type of Employment: Seasonal, with contract duration from July/August to fall 2025 or possibly beyond
Number of Vacancies: 3-5
Hours of Work: Anticipated to be up to 35 hours per week, based on need. Work hours are based on Wednesday – Sunday schedule. Must be available to work flexible hours including early morning/ late evenings/weekends and holidays as per our current various shifts of (5:00am -1:00pm), (7:00 am – 3:00 pm), (3:00pm – 11:00 pm), (1:00pm – 9:00pm), (5:00pm -1:00am )
Rate of Pay: $18 per hour
Location: On site, at our waterfront campus in downtown Toronto
Duties
- Ensure that the site is maintained free from hazards.

Maintain the site, keeping it free of litter and debris and sweeping all areas of the facility.

Perform waste management activities which include collecting, compacting carboard, cleaning around all trash bins and compactor, and pulling dumpsters to appropriate areas.
- Operate grounds vehicles and equipment and ensure that all are in adequate repair and safe to operate.
- Perform the setup and strike( teardown) of events on campus as required.
- Perform landscaping duties and maintain the facilities/campus grounds by mowing /trimming/ blowing /removal of weeds/ upkeep of planters, interlock repair, etc.
- Responsible for maintenance and installation of all tents on site and fencing requirements.
- Responsible for general maintenance of equipment and/or facilities as assigned, such as cleaning, painting, minor plumbing, minor carpentry, minor repairs, graffiti removal, etc.
- Perform inspections of equipment and/or facilities and maintain required logs (vehicle logs, maintenance logs, etc.) as assigned.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned/required.
- Assist in supporting other departments as required.
Requirements
– Certification & Training
- Valid WHMIS training required (or ability to obtain).

Valid Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training required (or ability to obtain).

Valid Working at Heights training is a favourable asset.

Familiarity with the Occupational Health & Safety Act is desirable

A Class G Ontario driver’s license with 3 years’ experience is desirable.
– Machine Operations & Small /Large Power Tools
- Ability to operate small and large power tools and a variety of gas-powered tools.

Knowledge of landscaping practices and/or maintenance and cleaning practices is desirable.
- Ability to work in different weather conditions and preform physical tasks such as lifting upwards of 50lbs, bending, walking and standing for extended periods of time

Ability to operate light vehicles such as UTVs or medium-duty trucks is considered an asset.

Experience with equipment repairs and preventative maintenance is considered an asset.
- A Class G Ontario driver’s license with 3 years’ experience is desirable.

Safety Shoes are required to be worn at all time. Cost for safety shoes is to be covered by the incumbent. Harbourfront Centre will provide all other PPE as needed to carry out the duties of the role.

Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. Non-Canadian applicants must have a valid employment Visa and proper documentation authorizing their ability to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.
