About
Learn the fundamentals of hyperbolic crochet, a technique that transforms simple stitches into dramatically ruffled, sculptural forms through systematic increases. By adding extra stitches at regular intervals, flat crochet expands into rippling surfaces that model hyperbolic geometry in tactile ways. Hyperbolic crochet offers a powerful intersection of craft, mathematics, and embodied learning. Participants will leave with a finished sample and a deeper understanding of how structure, repetition, and variation can shape material space.
No advanced math knowledge is required. Through guided instruction, participants will:
- Learn the basic crochet stitches needed for hyperbolic forms
- Understand how consistent increases create curvature
- Experiment with different rates of expansion
- Create their own small hyperbolic crochet sample
This workshop is suitable for advanced beginner crocheters who already know chain, single, and double crochet stitches and are ready to expand their skills. All materials are provided, including acrylic yarn, a 5 mm hook, and a darning needle to take home.
