About

Two daily performances celebrating heritage, resilience, and the wisdom nature offers us — told through music, storytelling and interactive family participation.

Morning Performance (12pm)

Sansa Kromah: The Hawk’s Tale

Ideal for: ages 4–12 and all accompanying adults

A musical storytelling adventure about courage, identity and finding your voice. Families are invited on a rhythmic journey with Sansa Kromah, a young hawk who loses her way and must learn to trust her instincts to rise again. Using kalimba, djembe and guided audience “voices,” this performance weaves together West African oral traditions with universal lessons about belonging, bravery and the strength found in community.

Afternoon Performance (2pm)

Nature’s Enduring Gifts

Ideal for: ages 4–12 and all accompanying adults

In this deeply engaging family performance, Frances invites audiences into her own journey of discovery: how a simple gourd, first encountered as a cultural object, revealed itself to be a powerful symbol used by enslaved Africans seeking freedom. Families learn how clues from nature guided freedom seekers along the Underground Railroad until they reached safety in Canada.

Interwoven with music, storytelling and gentle participatory moments, this performance helps children and families understand how nature — trees, water, sky, birds and the humble gourd — became both teacher and compass in times of unimaginable courage.
