About

“There is a belief that you can’t bury the truth. That in time every untruth will be revealed. Surface Tension is the point in which our buried truths meet with revelation. When we reckon with the past and the present. The work unfolds in two movements: the first plays on the machinery of imperialism, building tension before deconstructing into chaos. The second emerges as a slow, reflective, melancholic melody that speaks to the devastation left behind once the truth is exposed. The piece is written in response to the legacy of residential schools, and to the image of a harsh winter thawing, when the ground softens and long-hidden misdeeds are uncovered.” — Dennis Passley on Surface Tension
