Security Guards (Day or Night Shift)

We are currently looking to bring on board a few reliable, attentive and collaborative Security Guards to help monitor and maintain the safety of our premises, properties, and visitors to our campus.

 

Position Title: Security Guard (Day or Night Shift)

Department: Safety & Security

Reporting to: Security Supervisor

Number of Vacancies: 3

Type of Employment: Part-time

Hours of Work: Hours of work based on need, with an anticipated work schedule that can range up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work for 2 of the positions are 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, and one position will work a night shift of 7:00 pm to 7:00 am. Must be available to work a schedule comprised of weekdays and weekends.

Rate of Pay: $19 to $19.50 per hour

Location:  Site-based at our waterfront campus in downtown Toronto at 235 Queens Quay W.

Duties

  • Conduct proactive patrols to ensure safety of our  property, building, staff and visitors, taking appropriate action to resolve existing or potential security/ safety/ loss prevention problems and escalating any concerns as needed to the Security Supervisor.
  • Attend and investigate security alarms and emergencies in a timely and professional manner.
  • De-escalate crisis situations, provide support and liaise with emergency personnel including; Police, Fire and Paramedic resources.
  • Complete personal employee memo book, recording incidents and security activities while on shift. As directed, maintain log of security activities for insurance/ legal purposes when required.
  •  Write clear and detailed reports including incident, emergency, liability and day-to-day reports.
  • Exercise crowd control and evict trespassers.
  • Provide first aid and medical response when required to any person(s).
  • Utilize two way radios and computer applications to communicate site activities.
  • Answer inquiries from the public politely and professionally.
  • Employ use of force techniques and strategies in accordance with training and company policy as required during shift.
  • Perform administrative and building support duties as required.

 

Requirements

  • Minimum education of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid Ontario Security License.
  • Must have strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills to deal with co-workers, the general public and outside agencies.
  • Prior experience working in a Security Guard capacity is preferred.
  • Must be able to work 12-hour shifts of either 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, or 7:00 pm to 7:00 am and must be able to work a schedule that includes weekdays and weekend shifts.
  • Must have an Ontario drivers’ license with a clean abstract.
  • Must have a valid emergency and/or standard first aid/CPR certification.
  • Valid certification of provincial standards for Use of Force (in handcuff and baton) is preferred.
  • Ability to remain calm and effectively perform in emergency situations.
  • Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and safety/security procedures.
  • Ability to withstand moderate physical activity, standing and walking for long periods of time including in outdoor weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of the Trespass to Property Act and Arrest Procedures.
  • Familiarity with the Occupation Health & Safety Act is considered an asset.
  • Employee will be required to wear an appropriate uniform for the role while on duty.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. All international applicants must have a valid employment Visa authorizing their ability to work in Canada on an ongoing base.
