We are currently looking to bring on board several reliable, attentive and collaborative Grounds Crew/Zamboni Drivers to assist with various site maintenance and upkeep activities on our 10-acre campus inclusive of skating rink maintenance, landscaping, waste management, repairs and maintenance, event setups/strikes, in support of a welcoming visitor experience and of our programs and events.
Position Title: Grounds Crew/Zamboni Driver
Department: Site Operations
Reporting To: Manager, Site Operations
Type of Employment: Seasonal, from November/December 2024 to mid-March 2025
Hours of Work: Varied, with work shifts ranging from 5-8 hours per day to cover the rink’s daily operating hours of 10 am – 10/11 pm, as well as our regular site maintenance needs. Ideally, must have availability to work shifts that take place during weekdays, evenings and/or weekends and holidays.
Rate of Pay: $17.50 – $18 per hour
Location: Toronto, at our lakeside campus located at 235 Queens Quay W.
Duties
- Ensure that the site is maintained free from hazards.
- Responsible for maintaining the site, keeping it free of litter and providing regular garbage removal from containers and dump sites.
- Operate grounds vehicles and equipment and ensure that all are in adequate repair and safe to operate.
- Perform the setup and strike of events on campus as required.
- Operate the Zamboni machine to resurface our skating rink and maintain the ice rink surface as required for a safe and optimal skating experience.
- Clean and maintain the Zamboni machine and other ice rink equipment.
- Ensure the safety of all skaters by following proper safety procedures.
- Assist with other ice rink maintenance duties as needed.
- Perform landscaping duties such as cutting of lawns, removal of weeds, upkeep of planters, interlock repair, etc.
- Responsible for maintenance and installation of all tents on site.
- Responsible for general maintenance of equipment and/or facilities as assigned, such as cleaning, painting, minor plumbing, minor carpentry, minor repairs, graffiti removal, etc.
- Perform inspections of equipment and/or facilities and maintain required logs (vehicle logs, maintenance logs, snow/ice logs, etc.) as assigned.
- Should we experience a late winter, take care of all aspects of snow clearing/ice control such as shoveling, snow blowing, plowing, salting, etc.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned/required.
Requirements
- Valid WHMIS training required (or ability to obtain).
- Valid Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training required (or ability to obtain).
- Ability to operate small and large power tools and a variety of gas-powered tools.
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Capacity to lift upwards of 50lbs.
- Must possess a valid Class G2 Ontario driver’s license with a clean abstract, preferably with 3 years’ driving experience.
- Prior experience operating a Zamboni machine or heavy machinery is highly desirable.
- Reliable and punctual with the willingness and availability to work a range of shifts which may include day, afternoon, evening and weekend hours.
- A diligent and attentive attitude to ensure good quality work.
- A positive and collaborative approach to effectively work with colleagues and to deal with the public. The ability to demonstrate good customer service skills is important, as our campus is a tourist destination for all to enjoy.
- Ability to operate light vehicles such as UTVs or medium-duty trucks is considered an asset.
- Valid Working at Heights training is a favourable asset.
- Knowledge of landscaping practices and/or maintenance and cleaning practices is desirable.
- Experience with equipment repairs and preventative maintenance is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with the Occupational Health & Safety Act is desirable.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. Non-Canadian applicants must have valid documentation authorizing their ability to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.
