Currently, an exciting employment opportunity exists in Harbourfront Centre Camps, one of Toronto’s largest, most diverse and creative day camps! We are looking to bring on board a proactive, organized, and relationship-focused Coordinator, Camp Operations & Family Engagement to act as an ambassador for our Camps, helping to ensure families feel welcomed, informed, and supported throughout the entire camp cycle.This role blends camp operations support, strong staff leadership, and exceptional customer service.

Hours Of Work: 35 hours per week
Rate of Pay: $28.57 – $30.22 per hour, which equates to an annual salary of $52,000 – $55,000
Work Location: On-site at our waterfront campus in Toronto
Summary of Function
Working closely with the Assistant Manager, Camps, the Coordinator supports pre-season planning, staff training, program development, operational logistics, and parent communications. During camp season, the Coordinator plays a central leadership role, supporting Supervisors and Program Leads, maintaining smooth daily operations, facilitating family interactions at drop-off and pick-up, and proactively responding to parent concerns. The ideal candidate brings strong camp experience, confident leadership, excellent communication skills, and a positive, solutions-oriented approach to working with families.
Duties
Pre-Camps Season (March-June)
- Serve as a parent liaison, supporting families by providing general information, guidance, and proactive outreach as needed.
- Support the creation and distribution of pre-season newsletters, program updates, and other communications to build engagement and prepare families for summer.
- Assist with registration management in collaboration with the Camps Registrar.
- Support pre-season staffing administration in collaboration with the Assistant Manager, Camps.
- Assist in the planning and execution of pre-season events such as family engagement sessions.
- Contribute to administrative planning, documentation updates, and operational process improvements for summer camps.
- Support in developing programming and curriculum materials for summer programs in collaboration with the Camps leadership team.
- Prepare session plans, activity outlines, and staff-facing program resources to ensure consistency and quality across camp categories.
During Camps (July-August)
- Act as a welcoming, knowledgeable ambassador during camper drop-off and pick-up, greeting families and facilitating smooth daily transitions.
- Address parent questions and concerns promptly, professionally, and empathetically, escalating issues as needed.
- Support, coach, and provide leadership to Supervisors, helping them effectively manage their teams and ensure the smooth operation of their camps.
- Lead weekly parent newsletters and ongoing communication to keep families informed about program activities, updates, and important reminders.
- Conduct weekly check-ins with Supervisors to monitor progress, address challenges, and reinforce best practices.
- Help foster a positive, supportive, and high-performing staff culture through consistent communication and presence.
- Assist with the planning and execution of end-of-session open houses.
- Follow and support emergency procedures and safety protocols.
- Perform additional tasks to support the Camps leadership team as required.
Requirements
- Post-secondary education in Education, Recreation, Arts, Child & Youth Studies, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 3 years of demonstrated experience in a camp (day or overnight), educational, or childcare setting.
- Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated experience in a supervisory or staff leadership role within a camp or educational setting.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach staff, facilitate training activities, and support team effectiveness.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to proactively address parent concerns and build positive relationships.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and adapt to fast-paced, dynamic environments.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills, with experience managing multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
- Positive, energetic attitude with a commitment to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive camp environment.
- Passion for engaging with children and youth and supporting their development through high-quality camp programming.
- OCT certification is considered an asset.
- A valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification.
- A satisfactory Criminal Background Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (required; cost covered by the incumbent).
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.
- This role is based in Toronto, and the candidate must be able to work on-site at our lakeside campus at 235 Queens Quay West.
