About

The Colours’ Colour is a response to the human instinct to aspire towards resonance and self-expression. Sculptural form, colour and graphic pattern come together to reveal the self in its entirety so that the characters presented simultaneously declare a celebration of existence.

Colours sing in this exhibition, as the human portrait encapsulates the potential beauty and vibrancy within. It becomes undeniable that flowers have bloomed within us and have rooted deep inside our hearts. We who have a soft and ever-changing nature will flourish gracefully until discovering more about who we are as we seek out who we want to become.

Curated by Marlee Choo, Manager, Visual Arts.

Join us for the Opening Reception on Thursday, September 12 from 6-10pm.

Artist Statement

“Through the compelling language of ceramics, I capture humanity in a way that resonates deeply with diverse communities. Building upon the relationship between the vessel and the concept of the human body as a vessel itself, I imbue my sculptural forms with humanity’s memories, language and heritage.

In my journey as an artist, uncovering the authentic and unfiltered self has been a motif that has persisted throughout my practice. While it can be overwhelming to stand in the brokenness of denial, perhaps noticing that brightness and colour can exist in the dark could allow us to discover how the colours of our humanity will always remain inseparable from what it means to live truly.” – Joon Hee Kim
