About

“From Canada to Cuphead” is a program carefully curated by Duo Holz for Summer Music in the Garden. It follows the duo’s current direction of showcasing Canadian composers in diverse works for violin and percussion, this time with an exciting new premiere by Matthias McIntire supported by Harbourfront Centre. Audiences can expect styles ranging from comedic classical dance forms to toe-tapping ragtime to Iranian hand-drumming and fiddling, representing Canadian musical identities today in its many diverse forms.

About Duo Holz

Duo Holz is a classical violin and percussion duo of Aysel Taghi-Zada and Michael Murphy. Their collaboration focuses on showcasing Canadian voices, resulting in a repertoire centered around modern works. The duo has enjoyed performances at the Music Gallery’s Emergents series, a two-day residency at the Canadian Music Centre, including workshops and concerts, and have also appeared on stage at Koerner Hall as featured guests at the 21C festival. Recent contributions include Sophie Dupuis’ debut record Comme Bon Lui Semble and a coming release of Paolo Griffin’s 30-minute work, Alone, Together. The duo’s 2024 season includes premieres of works by Tyler Versluis, Michelle Lorimer, Chris Paul Harman, Liam Ritz and Matthias McIntire.
