About Rey Narvasa
Rey Narvasa, a native of Cebu City, Philippines, pursued medical studies before eventually settling in Quebec. He is a self-taught artist and painter who has explored a wide range of artistic mediums, including drawing, painting and sculpting. A distinctive source of inspiration is the great outdoors, as his penchant for hiking often informs his creative ideas.
Rooted in Filipino heritage, his work pays homage to cultural identity and collective memory. Through a vibrant mix of ink, colour and textured materials, he weaves together stories of resilience and tradition. Each piece invites viewers to reflect on the everyday nuances of Filipino life — its warmth, strength and ingenuity. His deep-rooted passion for preserving Filipino heritage shines through in his captivating artworks, where he skillfully contrasts the essence of specific characteristics.
Narvasa experiments with various tools, from toothbrushes to toothpicks, embracing resourcefulness as part of his artistic process. His artworks transform familiar symbols into expressive narratives, serving as visual tributes to the things we carry from home, especially when far from it.
