Overview

Join multi-disciplinary visual storyteller and artist Althea Balmes for an interactive Create Your Own Comics workshop exploring the art of comic book creation. You will receive top tips on what makes great visual storytelling before getting down to creating some of your own work. This is a fun and informal workshop, and no previous experience is required. All materials are provided. Advance registration is essential as places are limited. Co-Presented with the Toronto International Festival of Authors.

About Althea Balmes

Althea Balmes (she/her/siya) is an award-winning multidisciplinary visual storyteller and community artist. Her comics, illustrations, films and video art focus on migration stories, diasporic experiences, personhood and ancestral knowledge. Her workshops focus on giving space to young artists to explore and share their stories, while her own work is informed by experiencing alternative worldviews and other realities. Blames is also a member of the Kwentong Bayan Collective.
