Overview

Jenie Thai, blues piano and tender ballads come to our Stage in the Park, followed by opinionated feminist indie band Housewife and their counter-genre approach to performance.

About Jenie Thai

Jenie Thai Nolan was born in Chang Mai, Thailand. Nolan is composed, pleasant, amiable and friendly when you meet her. She plays barrelhouse piano steeped in the blues with a gritty touch and writes and sings tough and tender ballads, direct from her heart to yours. Her new album Night on Fire came with a sold-out show at Toronto’s Hugh’s Room, and while she now calls the city home, she lives on the road with dust on her shoes, love in her heart, and a lot of music in her soul.

About Housewife

Brighid Fry (she/her) and Pascale Padilla (they/she) are Music’s future. Self-proclaimed as an “opinionated feminist indie band,” the two Toronto-based songwriters of Housewife write and perform their songs and think genres are dull and reductive. They are Queer, allies, activists and champions of the environmentalist group Music Declares Emergency.

At only 19 and 20 years old, Fry and Padilla released their debut self-titled EP in 2017 and a follow-up EP, Better Daughter, which the CBC named one of the “22 Albums You Need to Hear” in the summer of 2020. Additionally, they’ve already won a Canadian Folk Music Award, a Toronto Independent Music Award, the Canadian Songwriting Competition (in the under 18 category) and the Slaight Music It’s Your Shot Award. With the new Music released via Hazel Street Records (Sony / Orchard), Housewife returns with its most mature and insightful collection to date.
