This summer, we are excited to be hosting many big-name partnerships including Luminato, Live Nation, The Canadian Soccer Association and The Shaw Festival, in addition to the many cultural festivals that Harbourfront Centre is famous for. As our campus is going to be buzzing with a multitude of activities, events and festivals, we are currently looking for several friendly, reliable and service-oriented Ushers to support our audiences during their visits and attendance to our events.

Number of Vacancies: 10+
Type of Employment: Seasonal contract from June – September 2026 (possibility to retain into fall/winter 2026 on a casual basis)
Hours Of Work: Anticipated to be approximately 12 – 24 hours per week, however hours are not guarantee and will vary based on event and programming need. Work shifts are anticipated to take place primarily on Friday evenings, on weekends and during Holidays
Rate of Pay: $18.25 per hour
Work Location: On-site at our waterfront campus in Toronto
Summary of Function
Harbourfront Centre manages multiple indoor venues (The Fleck @ Harbourfront Centre Theatre with a 350 capacity and the Studio Theatre with a 196 capacity) and various alternative multi-purpose spaces for presentations, workshops, school classes, camps and other activities, as well as several outdoor venues which include The Concert Stage with a 1300 capacity and three gathering public squares (the Community Square, Canada Square, and, Ontario Square) that operate year-round.
Our Ushers provide support for events held on our campus by assisting audiences with wayfinding directions and venue access, directing patrons to assigned or available seating, scanning tickets as needed, responding to general inquiries, identifying and addressing any issues that might arise (disruption, traffic flow, injury, etc.), assisting with receptions, coat check service and merchandise sales.
Duties
- Proactively welcome audiences, provide information and direction, check and electronically scan tickets, help manage the flow of lines and crowds, distribute show programs and direct audiences to their places.
- Proactively assist audience members with accessible needs, ensuring they have a barrier-free experience.
- Observe all areas of the venue during performance to facilitate response to emergency situations, disruptions, traffic flow issues, or patrons/visitors requiring assistance.
- Be knowledgeable of emergency procedures in order to be able to assist Front of House Supervisor/Security in an emergency situation.
- Maintain a clean environment within the venues by bussing glassware and plastic, recycling programs and inserts, disposing of other garbage, and alerting supervisors to larger maintenance or cleanliness issues.
- Arrange furniture and other large items (e.g., tables, chairs, stanchions, and signage) in lobby areas as needed
- Receive and return garments and bags, provide claim tags, and handle cash for coat check.
- Sell merchandise, maintain inventory, handle cash and card transactions, and balance float for merchandise table.
- Provide friendly, approachable, and sincere customer service at all times.
- Perform verification checks as required in accordance with Harbourfront Centre Health and Safety policy &/or Federal, Provincial, or Municipal guidelines or mandates.
- Remain flexible while on shift to support other Audience Services positions as required
- Perform 0ther duties of a similar nature as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Must be comfortable working outdoors under various weather conditions.
- Ability to have a flexible schedule as job requires daytime, evening, weekend, and late-night shifts.
- Must possess tact and diplomacy in responding to audience questions and complaints. Experience providing a high level of customer service in a theatrical, music/concert, or events environment is preferred.
- Must have familiarity with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
- A positive collaborative attitude, with a desire to aid in the overall success of the organization.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to professionally and positively interact with diverse groups of people from all backgrounds and ages.
- A collaborative and team-oriented attitude.
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.
- A passion for the arts, performance, culture and education is important.
- Previous working experience in a hospitality/bar service environment is considered an asset, as is Smart Serve Certification.
- Ticketing/Box Office/Call Centre experience is desirable.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the seasonal contract.
- Must be able to work on site at our lakeside campus in downtown Toronto, as this is an in-person role.
