About

Daughters of Donbas is musically centered on the true stories of real stolen children. Combining indie pop, neo-classical and Ukrainian folk polyphony, these original compositions performed beside ancient folk songs are musical artivism.

On bandura, violin, viola, cello, bass, keyboard and soaring vocals, each performance is a musical journey through laughter, resilience and tears.
Each song is a testimony to a stolen name, a ruined childhood, a forbidden voice.

The project has made headlines around the world, including reports on the BBC, NPR, CBC, Sirius XM, German National Radio and other major media outlets.

Daughters of Donbas will be premiering a new arrangement by Marichka commissioned by Harbourfront Centre for the Summer Music in the Garden 2026 season.

About Daughters of Donbas

The ensemble blends art-folk, chamber music and traditional Ukrainian singing, featuring original compositions alongside traditional songs. They have toured the world, with concerts at Peter Gabriel’s famous WOMADelaide festival in Australia, Tallinn Music Week in Estonia, a live session on Japanese radio and more.

Daughters of Donbas is an all-female + non-binary ensemble featuring Ukrainian Canadian singer Marichka; activist, war journalist, volunteer combat medic and winner of the Amnesty International Award. She travels between Canada and Ukraine, working on this musical project dedicated to the 20,000+ Ukrainian children who were abducted from the occupied regions of Donbas and taken to Russia.
