We are currently seeking a dynamic, collaborative, inspiring and experienced Senior Manager, Education to be responsible for the planning, execution and oversight of various learning programs and initiatives at Harbourfront Centre, specifically our Camps and School Visits programs, as well as other multi-generational community learning initiatives aligned with our educational goals. In collaboration with the Director, Cultural Engagement, this role will shape and direct the lifelong recreational learning strategy for Harbourfront Centre. 

 

Position Title: Senior Manager, Education

Reporting To: Director, Cultural Engagement (Interim)

Direct Reports: Manager, School Visits, Registrar, Recreational Learning, Assistant Manager, Recreational Learning

Type of Employment: Full-time, 35 hours per week

Location: Toronto. Hybrid work environment (onsite 3+ days per week)

Duties

* Camps Programs

  • Develop and implement recreational learning programs within Harbourfront Centre’s programming frameworks. 
  • Modify events as necessary, coordinating with instructors, facilities, and technical staff. 
  • Recruit, train, and supervise seasonal staff for Camps programming. 
  • Liaise with Marketing for program publicity and marketing. 
  • Collaborate with community groups to determine involvement and costs. 
  • Work with other departments to coordinate programs and provide necessary information. 
  • Research and develop new program ideas and offerings, assessing their feasibility. 
  • Assist in developing and implementing additional community and educational programs. 
  • Evaluate program success and develop improvement plans, preparing evaluation reports and recommendations. 
  • Negotiate, prepare, supervise, and monitor contracts with program partners and service providers. 
  • Create and update training manuals. 
  • Maintain program space and document files. 
  • Ensure compliance with Ontario Camps Association standards 
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature and level. 

* School Visits Programs

  • Oversee the implementation of School Visits programs within Harbourfront Centre’s programming frameworks. 
  • Review and modify programs as necessary, coordinating with Manager, School Visits, full time School Visits team and educators.  
  • Support Manager, School Visits in the recruitment, training and management of  educators for School Visits programming. 
  • Liaise with Marketing for program publicity and marketing. 
  • Collaborate with school boards to determine involvement and costs. 
  • Work with other departments to coordinate programs and provide necessary information and logistical support. 
  • Research and develop new program ideas, assessing their feasibility. 
  • Assist in developing and implementing additional community and educational programs. 
  • Collaborate and support internal and external partners in the implementation and delivery of educational programs.
  • Evaluate program success and develop improvement plans, preparing evaluation reports and recommendations. 
  • In the absence of the Manager, School Visits, oversee day-to-day operations of classes, ensuring school satisfaction and monitoring teacher responses to evaluations. 
  • Liaise with potential program partners to deliver unique programming. 
  • Maintain contacts in the education field, particularly arts education programs, through conferences and networking. 
  • Create and update training manuals. 
  • Maintain program space and document files. 
  • Promote School Visits programs to the school community and the general public. 
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature and level. 

* Budget Forecast

  • Prepare, monitor, and submit budget and revenue projections for Camps and School Visits programs. 
  • Monitor budget against actuals, making necessary adjustments to revenue targets and expenditures 
  • Recommend innovative strategies for revenue generation and new directions in programming and partnership opportunities. 
  • Become familiar and proficient with with Camp Brain and Artifax software, as well as web outreach initiatives. 

 

Requirements

  • A university or college degree in recreation, education, and/or fine arts or related field. A Master’s degree in Recreation, Education, or related field is considered an asset. 
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in camp, educational, and recreational programs. 
  • Programming experience for various learning styles and age groups. 
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and relationship-management skills to liaise and interact with other departments and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven experience in budget preparation and financial processes. 
  • Excellent computer skills, including audiovisual and art equipment operation. 
  • Exceptional organizational skills to coordinate multiple activities and programs. 
  • Knowledge of risk management, emergency planning, CPR, and Standard First Aid. 
  • Experience with relevant legislations and clear background checks. 
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution abilities. 
  • Exceptional leadership, staff management and team-building skills to supervise, motivate and inspire diverse staff.
  • Commitment to and passion for youth education and lifelong learning. 
  • Possess high-level critical thinking and logical reasoning, yet also a creative and innovative thinker. 
  • Energetic, self-motivated, results-oriented and a strong work ethic.  
  • Experience in the not-for-profit sector is desirable, as is knowledge of Canada’s arts community, and/or experience working with individuals with Special Needs (Inclusion).
