Performing Arts Educators, School Visits

We are currently looking for several engaging, dynamic and creative Performing Arts Educators, School Visits to deliver a range of diverse educational programs to children and youth that foster memorable, informative, fun and rich learning experiences aligned with Harbourfront Centre’s educational goals.

 

Position Title: Performing Arts Educator, School Visits

Department: Education

Reporting To: Assistant Manager, School Visits

Number of Vacancies: 10-12

Employment Type: Contract, from September 2026 – June 2027

Hours of Work: Varied based on organizational need and programs registration, 0 to 5 days per week, from 8:30am-2:30pm

Compensation: $23 – $27 per hour

Location: On-site at our lakeside campus in downtown Toronto, and as needed, able to deliver in-school programming at various TDSB and TCDSB schools

 

Summary Of Function

Located at Harbourfront Centre, School Visits is an innovative field-trip program that offers hands-on, curriculum-based learning experiences through multidisciplinary experiences. School Visits Educators are responsible for delivering programs in Visual Arts, including clay, mixed media, printmaking and/or textile arts as well as Urban Studies Programs that incorporate guided walks on our 10-acre waterfront campus.

Programs take place in both indoors and outdoors venues, including event tents in May and June. Educators must be prepared to work in a variety of settings and weather conditions. Key responsibilities include setting up, facilitating, and cleaning up after scheduled workshops. In addition to leading workshops, Educators introduce visiting groups to Harbourfront Centre by highlighting current galleries, exhibitions, and upcoming programs.

 

Duties

• Facilitate hands-on, curriculum-based School Visits programs in Performing Arts and Urban Studies for grades pre-kindergarten to grade 12.
• Prepare, set up and clean up program spaces, materials and equipment for scheduled workshops.
• Deliver engaging, age-appropriate learning experiences for visiting school groups, on site at our campus, or as needed off-site at various TDSB and TCDSB schools.
• Support learning in both indoor and outdoor environments, including event tents during May and June, and adapt programming to varying weather conditions.
• Ensure a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment for all participants.
• Monitor and evaluate programs to ensure they meet the needs of students and teachers, with a strong emphasis on experiential learning.
• Provides superior customer service to visiting teachers and student groups.
• Take ownership of student safety during an emergency procedure.
• Support co-op students, volunteers, interns and/or student teachers when assigned.
• Follow established health and safety procedures, program guidelines, and organizational policies.
• Participate in training, orientation, and professional development as required.
• Assist with basic program evaluation, feedback collection, and reporting as requested.

 

Requirements

• Some training in education and or/child development (B.Ed., E.C.E., M.T., or equivalent) is an asset. Please note: we encourage candidates who are working towards completion of a formal degree in  Education to apply and/or who have dedicated commitment to creating inclusive learning spaces for children and youth.
• Demonstrated teaching experience and/or leading workshops with children and youth in any formal or informal setting (school, gallery, museum, before/after school program, camp).
• Ability to lead workshops in at least one of the following dance styles: Hip Hop, Creative Movement, Contemporary Dance, Latin Dance; AND/OR one or drama workshops (Storytelling, Improv AND/OR one or more music program (body percussion).
• Comfort working in both indoor and outdoor environments, including event tents, and in varying weather conditions.
• Willingness to learn and teach other programs within the School Visits portfolio.
• Able to stand for a long period of time and lift various materials and equipment up to 40lbs.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, classroom/ group management skills, including the ability to handle potentially difficult situations with diplomacy.
• Strong organizational and time management skills within a classroom setting.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, as well as independently.
• Demonstrated commitment to creating safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environments.
• Familiarity with the Ontario Curriculum and program development experience is an asset.
• Bilingualism (English-French) is considered an asset, as we often host French Immersion classes in our programs.
• As a condition of employment, a Vulnerable Sector Check that is satisfactory to Harbourfront Centre will be required of the successful candidate. The cost of this screening is to be covered by the incumbent.
• Must be legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract and of active employment.
• This role is based in Toronto. The candidate must be able to work on site at our lakeside campus, with the flexibility to work off-site at various TDSB and TCDSB schools when needed.
