We are currently seeking an organized, experienced, driven and results-oriented Assistant Manager, Camps to provide coordination of operations, logistics and staffing for Harbourfront Centre’s Summer Camps program, one of Toronto’s largest, most diverse and creative day camps.

Compensation: Annual salary of $59,000 – $63,000, plus a comprehensive benefits package

Duties
- Provide comprehensive coordination for day-to-day operations of the Summer Camps Program and other related department initiatives.
- Liaise with Operations teams to coordinate and manage camp logistics, including scheduling, site and location assignments, transportation arrangements, and the allocation of required resources and materials.
- Lead full-cycle recruitment of seasonal camp staff including recruiting, training, and scheduling, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively deliver the program.
- Support the Senior Manager, Education in planning, implementing, and evaluating the overall structure and flow of camp programming.
- Ensure that staff are informed about operational protocols, safety guidelines, and educational objectives for the department.
- Provide ongoing coaching, performance evaluations, and feedback to staff to enhance the quality of camp experiences.
- Coordinate with Human Resources for necessary staff support, including contracts, payroll, onboarding, and staffing schedules.
- Create and/or update training for all seasonal camp staff.
- Collaborate with the Senior Manager in the development, planning, and implementation of camp programs, ensuring they are safe, engaging, and aligned with Harbourfront Centre’s mission, vision and values.
- Lead the supervision and support of a team of camp staff, providing guidance, feedback, and ensuring they meet the camp’s standards for safety, creativity, and engagement.
- Monitor daily camp operations, including maintaining schedules, ensuring proper communication between staff, campers, and parents, and resolving any issues that may arise.
- Serve as a point of contact along with the Coordinator, Camps Operation & Family Engagement for parents, guardians, and community members for inquiries related to camp registration, activities, and updates.
- Ensure clear, timely, and professional communication with families and staff regarding camp schedules, safety information, and any changes in programming.
- Promote the value of the camp programs and community learning initiatives to enhance public understanding and engagement.
- Perform administrative duties such as evaluations, incident/accident reports, scheduling, payroll submission, etc.
- Provide occasional Support for School Visits programs as needed throughout the school year.
Requirements
- Bachelor and/or master’s degree in education, arts, recreation or a related field or equivalent.
- Minimum 3-5 years of supervisory/staff management experience in camp, recreation, or educational environment.
- Exceptional leadership skills, including the ability to manage employees to drive results and achieve top performance.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including seasonal and full-time staff (both direct and indirect reports), as well as visitors, program participants, families, and department leaders.
- A strong knowledge in creating programming for various learning styles and approaches for various age groups.
- Excellent organizational skills to coordinate multiple activities and programs.
- Strong relationship-management skills, including the ability to work closely and collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.
- A strong sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people-management skills.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Commitment to youth education and lifelong learning.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification.
- A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle will be considered an asset.
- Familiarity with Ontario Camps Association (OCA) and accreditation process & standards will be considered an asset.
- Experience in the not-for-profit sector is desirable, as is knowledge of Canada’s arts community, and/or experience working with individuals with Special Needs (Inclusion).
- As a condition of employment, a Vulnerable Sector Check that is satisfactory to Harbourfront Centre will be required of the successful candidate. The cost of this screening is to be covered by the incumbent.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada on a full-time, ongoing basis.
