Scottish Country Dance with The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society

RSCDS Toronto Association is a not-for-profit cultural organization, affiliated with the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, Edinburgh. Social, enjoyable and ever evolving, this dance form has its roots in Scotland and is now enjoyed by people of all ages and backgrounds around the world. RSCDS Toronto, which will celebrate its 70th anniversary next year, offers classes for beginners, improvers, children, teens and families in several locations across the city and around the GTA, as well as weekly and monthly social dances and special events.

RSCDS Toronto Teachers:

David Booz began Scottish country dancing as a child in Toronto. He returned to it as a young adult and earned his teacher’s certificate in 1999. David has taught several social groups and Association classes in Toronto and at workshops and dance schools across Canada. He particularly enjoys the social aspect of Scottish country dancing, mixing with people of all backgrounds and all walks of life, and the opportunity to meet dancers from all over the world.

Erica de Gannes first encountered Scottish country dancing as an undergraduate at the University of St Andrews. While initially planning to go to only a few classes to support a friend who was teaching, she quickly became enamored with the footwork and the music and has been hooked ever since. Erica completed her Core Training for Instructors certificate in 2023 and is currently working on her teacher’s certificate. She danced with the North American Team at the Newcastle Festival in 2024 and 2025 and assists with the Glenview social group, which dances on Wednesday evenings.

Moira Korus teaches Rosedale Youth classes for children, teens and families on Saturday mornings and leads the Glenview social group on Wednesday evenings, bringing joy and inspiration to all events. Moira is accredited by the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society in Edinburgh, Scotland, having completed extensive training and adjudication. She has taught at summer school and workshops throughout North America.

Laird Brown and Warren Beesley have been fellow musicians since 1992. Their journey started when they joined the five-piece band, Bobby Brown and the Scottish Accent, with Warren on drums/guitar and Laird on rhythm accordion. For the next 20 years, the band would perform from the East to the West coasts of Canada, the United States and three tours of Scotland. In 2024, Laird and Warren started a new venture and formed Scotch and Soda. They have recorded their fist, self-titled album and continue to travel across Canada.
