About Pimento Soul

Pimento Soul is a Jamaican and Caribbean group formed and led by guitarist, composer, educator and Jamaican and cultural specialist Maurice Gordon. It expresses his passion and interest in Jamaica’s Indigenous and roots music. The group’s name is derived from the allspice, which has the characteristic flavour and aroma of cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon and pepper, similar to Jamaican music and culture. Pimento Soul’s music is deeply rooted in Jamaica’s folk music, called “mento” and the calypso of Trinidad and Tobago.
