Overview
Taktus Marimba Duo (Greg Harrison and Jonny Smith) is a Canadian marimba duo known for its fresh and unstarched classical and contemporary music interpretations. This concert, their first live performance since the release of their acclaimed album Mirrored Glass in 2020, will feature the bright, playful melodies of Ann Southam’s music, contrasted by the darker harmonies of Phillip Glass and the wind-up meditations of Aphex Twin. Sit in the garden and envelop yourself in the interplay of light and water, with overlapping waves of rhythm and melody. All arrangements by Taktus.

About Taktus Marimba Duo
Taktus Marimba Duo is known for their groove-based re-envisioning of classical and contemporary music. Their original marimba arrangements of minimalist music have been described as “virtuosic” (Gapplegate Music), “impeccable and articulate” (WholeNote Magazine), and “daring” (I Care If you Listen). Their most recent album, Mirrored Glass, released in January 2020, received critical acclaim from reviewers: “Harrison and Smith sensitively render the complex interplay of solo and accompanying voices with virtuoso panache” (WholeNote) and “the details and nuance will keep you coming back for more” (East Magazine). Mirrored Glass also earned a spot on the CBC’s Top 20 Classical Albums of 2020 and a nomination for “Instrumental Recording of the Year” at the ECMA’s. Taktus Marimba Duo has performed across Canada in classical chamber concert series, new music venues and indie music festivals. Their recording of Glass Houses No. 13 was choreographed by the Artistic Director of the Toronto Dance Theatre, Christopher House, and featured in dance performances across Canada and internationally.
