About Fergus Hambleton

Fergus Hambleton is one of Canada’s most respected and enduring musical figures — a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer whose career has been shaped by a lifelong love of reggae, ska, rocksteady, soul and roots music.
Best known as the co-founder and lead vocalist of the iconic reggae band The Sattalites, he played a pivotal role in bringing Jamaican music into the Canadian spotlight. What began as a modest “pay-what-you-can” music school in Toronto’s Little Jamaica evolved — under the leadership of Fergus and his musical partner, Jamaican-born trumpeter JoJo Bennett — into one of Canada’s most celebrated and influential reggae bands.
With their tight horn lines, harmony-driven vocals, and uplifting roots-reggae sound, The Sattalites became national ambassadors for the genre, earning multiple JUNO Awards, radio hits and an international following. Their authenticity and musicianship earned them an extraordinary honour early in their career: an invitation to perform at the very first Reggae Sunsplash in Jamaica, alongside some of reggae’s founding pioneers.
That moment marked The Sattalites as the first Canadian reggae band ever welcomed onto one of the world’s most important reggae stages — a robust recognition of their contribution to the music.
Hambleton’s reggae feel is soulful, melodic and deeply rooted in the traditions and spirit of the Caribbean. Yet his artistry extends far beyond one genre. He has released a vast catalogue of solo material, blending folk, pop, blues and acoustic storytelling, while continuing to perform and write reggae with the ease and depth of someone who has lived inside the music for decades.
Whether fronting The Sattalites, performing acoustically or collaborating with artists across genres, Hambleton remains a cornerstone of Canada’s musical landscape. His warm voice, thoughtful songwriting and genuine connection to reggae culture continue to inspire audiences and musicians alike — bridging Canadian and Caribbean musical traditions with authenticity, heart and groove.
