Overview
Jhankaar – Aesthetics of Ghungroo explores the dynamic artform of kathak for a dance performance that fuses traditional percussions indigenous to India with Spanish dance and movements, jingling ankle bells and the nagada, tabla and pakhawaj instruments. Raaga-based vocal compositions will mix with the sounds of ghungroos for a sound that marries Indian classical and European music together.
About Panwar Music and Dance Productions
Panwar Music and Dance Productions is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and preserving the Indian Classical dance style of Kathak and Hindustani classical music. The company has presented their original, full-length dance dramas all over the world, such as Krishna, Shakuntala, Hesperus 1838, Rajasthan Calling, Colours of Kathak and Flamenco, O Spring Colour Me, Poorvaj and many dances on historical and traditional themes. Artistic directors Hemant and Vaishali Panwar have promoted Kathak dance practices for almost 30 years. Hemant Panwar is a lyricist, music composer and versatile singer. Vaishali Panwar is a fantastic choreographer and scriptwriter who has presented her work through various dance dramas. Together, they have established their name as a dancing duo of the Kathak art form that has performed in Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Guyana, China and many more. Both Hemant and Vaishali are cultural educators who are also actively imparting training all over the Greater Toronto Area.
