About JER
Blending the essence of psychedelic rock, dub and Afrobeat grooves with northeast Brazilian rhythms and the Tropicalia influences of the 1970s, Jerusa Leão, the Brazilian Canadian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist known as JER, emerges. Her music creates an eclectic soundscape that defies conventional notions of traditional Brazilian music.
Hailing from Conceição do Coité in Northeastern Brazil, JER has graced the stages of prestigious events, including Lulaworld, MIxto Toronto Jazz and Calgary Folk festivals. Currently, she’s crafting her debut full-length album as a follow-up to her single, “Broken,” which was released under the Lulaworld label in December 2022.
Backed by May Saxophone, Andrew Pacheco on bass, João Leão on keys, and Dhaivat Jani on drums, JER transcends musical borders, drawing from the rich backgrounds of Canadian, Japanese, Brazilian and Indian cultures.
