About Forró for All

Forró for All is an all-volunteer dance community and non-profit offering forró dance classes since 2013. What started as a small initiative by Brazilian university students has grown into one of the most active forró dance communities in North America.

Instructors:

Talia Pankewycz

Talia discovered her love of forró in early 2024 and has taken big leaps to deepen her dance education, including travelling abroad for festivals and workshops. Last year she became an instructor with Forró for All and enjoys sharing her passion and enthusiasm for dance with others.

Mitesh Rao

Mitesh’s forró journey started while exploring new social activities soon after moving to Canada. First coming to Forró for All at the end of 2023, he quickly developed a passion for the dance and community, eventually becoming an instructor. He enjoys contributing to the welcoming environment that first introduced him to Forró.

About Maria and the Band

Founded through an organic collaboration between Brazilian and Canadian musicians, and led by the dynamic Jerusa Leão, Maria and the Band play forró “pé de serra,” a style of music from northeastern Brazil and textured with influences ranging from blues to arabesque. Incorporating rabeca (Brazilian fiddle), zabumba (two-toned drum), accordion, triangle and a chorus of vocals, Maria and The Band play original compositions and the great songs of forró so beloved in Brazil.
