About Rachel Mercer

Described as a “pure chamber musician” and “bringing moments of pure magic,” Canadian cellist Rachel Mercer is the principal cello of the NAC Orchestra in Ottawa, co-artistic director of the “5 at the First” series in Hamilton and one-half of the Mercer-Park Duo with pianist Angela Park. Previously cellist of the JUNO Award-winning piano quartet Ensemble Made In Canada, AYR Trio and the Aviv Quartet, she is also an advocate for new Canadian music. She has commissioned and premiered over 30 solo and chamber works. In 2014, Mercer released a critically acclaimed album of the Bach Suites recorded on the 1696 Bonjour Strad Cello from the Canada Council Instrument Bank.
