About

Witness the magic in this playful performance of breaking and contemporary dance from Denmark’s Uppercut Dance Theater. Using supersized benches as their launch pad, five dancers throw themselves around a long, black bench in a performance about how we can find our place in the world when life wants to throw us on the bench and out of the game.

About Uppercut Dance Theater

Uppercut Dance Theater is a diverse and international dance company based in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The company presents a fresh fusion of different dance styles, illustrated by the individual dancers’ different backgrounds in capoeira, break dance, acrobatics and contemporary dance. It is important for Uppercut Dance Theater to consist of performers and dancers with very different individual qualities, giving the company a diverse movement language, which has known to become its artistic signature.

Uppercut Dance Theater was founded in 1982 and recently celebrated its 40-year anniversary. Since 2015 the artistic leadership has been held by Stephanie Thomasen and Mark Philip.

About Stephanie Thomasen

Stephanie Thomasen is an award-winning choreographer and the woman at the forefront of Uppercut Dance Theater. She has been the artistic director of Uppercut Dance Theater since 2016 and a dancer and choreographer in the company since 2009.
