About
Harbourfront Centre’s Instructor-in-Training (IIT) program prepares emerging leaders for the exciting challenges of on-water instruction with our Canoe and Kayak camps. IITs learn alongside experienced instructors, develop leadership and paddling skills and gain hands-on experience supporting our campers both on the water and on land.
IITs build confidence in camper management, paddling instruction, teamwork and safety practice, all while earning valuable volunteer hours and contributing meaningfully to our camp community.
Prerequisites include previous experience in life-saving courses (Junior Lifeguard Club, Canadian Swim Patrol, Bronze Medals) or canoe and kayak experience.
All IITs must be available and present for mandatory training at the beginning of the summer. This training provides essential safety, paddling and leadership foundations necessary for success in the program.
Upon completing the program, IITs will receive volunteer hours for their placements outside of the training week and may be eligible for an interview with Harbourfront Centre Camps for future Junior Instructor positions, provided they apply through our website.
