Gabbi Knapp

Textile Artist-in-Residence since 2026
With a background in creative writing, Gabbi brings into her diverse textile practice a strong introspection and sensitivity while exploring ideas of longing and the unknown.

About

Gabbi Knapp is a textile artist, poet and lifelong nerd. By textile artist she means an artist for whom textiles — the materials and techniques, but also their devotional labour, practiced skill and metaphorical language — are the medium of choice. Knapp is in love with black holes, fantasy knights and empty rooms. She takes everything really seriously and believes that if only she is sincere enough, her work will one day open a door to some deeper truth.

Knapp holds an Honours Bachelor of Craft & Design from Sheridan College. She graduated in 2025, having spent the last year of her degree constructing a textile zine-installation about knights, comets, longing and relief. Her focus is currently turned to themes of place, memory and supplication. Knapp works recursively between methods of making, pulling together natural dyeing, screen printing, weaving, sewing and embroidery. Of equal importance in her practice is writing, drawing, research and pushing the limits of her work’s possibilities. If there’s one thing she’s always doing, though, it’s questing for the next thing.

Artist-in-Residence since 2026.
