Christian Maidankine

Design Artist-in-Residence since 2025
Working with leather, Christian Maidankine explores aspects which we, quite literally, carry with us in our everyday lives.

About

Christian Maidankine is a Toronto-based designer whose background in architecture and interest in making has led to an exploration with various materials, mostly leather. He is interested in volume, form and how we occupy spaces in our everyday lives.

His work explores the material characteristics of leather, transforming it into an array of spatial or functional objects. As an Artist-in-Residence at Harbourfront Centre, and an intern architect practicing in Toronto, Maidankine’s design work covers a variety of scales and functions while keeping the human experience at its core.

His work has been featured through Designlines Magazine, Canadian Architect, Gravity Pope, Craft Ontario and Harbourfront Centre.

“Harbourfront Centre has provided a space for creative exploration, bringing in individuals who are skilled in many different ways but share a passion of making. It’s provided a platform for growth in my own practice, offering mentorship and the opportunity to collaborate with other artists.
