We are currently seeking a collaborative and organized Indigenous Education Coordinator Trainee to support Indigenous content delivery in our Education programs. Rate of Pay: $22 per hour
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Work Location: On site, at our waterfront campus in downtown Toronto

Summary of Function
Located at Harbourfront Centre, School Visits is an innovative field-trip program that offers hands-on, curriculum-based learning experiences through multidisciplinary experiences. The Indigenous Education Coordinator Trainee will be responsible for delivering programs in Indigenous Studies and/or other disciplines including Visual Arts, Performing Arts or Urban Studies. Key responsibilities include setting up, facilitating and cleaning up after scheduled workshops. In addition to leading workshops, the Indigenous Education Coordinator Trainee will support both School Visits and Camps in administrative and programming tasks.
Duties
- Facilitate hands-on, curriculum-based School Visits programs in Indigenous Studies and/or other disciplines for grades pre-kindergarten to grade 12.
- Prepare, set up and cleanup program spaces, materials and equipment for scheduled workshops.
- Deliver engaging, age-appropriate learning experiences for visiting school groups.
- Ensure a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment for all participants.
- Monitor and evaluate programs to ensure they meet the needs of students and teachers, with a strong emphasis on experiential learning.
- Provides superior customer service to visiting teachers and student groups.
- Take ownership of student safety during an emergency procedure.
- Supports co-op students, volunteers, interns and/or student teachers when assigned.
- Follow established health and safety procedures, program guidelines, and organizational policies.
- Participate in training, orientation, and professional development as required.
- Support the Learning team in program review and development.
- Support development for our Indigenous resources for School Visits programs.
- Assist in outreach, registration and/or other administrative duties in both School Visits and Camps.
- Assist the Learning team in supply management including supply inventory, replenishment and cost analysis.
- Participate in professional development opportunities with other departments, including hands-on and administrative experience.
Requirements
- As this position is funded by a grant, candidates need to identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, Inuit) and must be currently residing within the Greater Toronto Area.
- Demonstrated teaching experience and/or leading workshops with children and youth in any formal or informal setting (school, gallery, museum, before/after school program, camp).
- Background or training in Visual Arts (e.g., clay, mixed media, printmaking, textile arts), Performing Arts (dance, drama, music), Urban Studies, education, or a related field is an asset.
- Able to stand for a long period of time and lift various materials and equipment up to 40lbs.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, classroom/ group management skills, including the ability to handle potentially difficult situations with diplomacy.
- Strong organizational and time management skills within a classroom setting.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently when required.
- Demonstrated commitment to creating safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environments.
- ·Bilingualism (English – French) is considered an asset.
- As a condition of employment, a Vulnerable Sector Check that is satisfactory to Harbourfront Centre will be required of the successful candidate. The cost of this screening is to be covered by the incumbent.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.
- This role is based in Toronto. The candidate must be able to work on site at our lakeside campus.
