We are currently looking to bring on board a Hospitality Assistant to help support all hospitality-related event services across our campus, as well as perform administration-related tasks. This role assist with the overall preparation of events and the overall day-to-day operations of the Hospitality department, including artist services duties and inventory management.

Position Title: Hospitality Assistant
Department: Visitor Experience
Reporting To: Manager, Hospitality
Type of Employment: Seasonal/Contract
Duration of Employment: 8 weeks, June 24 – August 19, 2024
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week
Rate of Pay: $16.55 per hour
Work Location: At our lakeside campus in Toronto at 235 Queens Quay W.
Duties
- Curate and manage Hospitality events for internal and external clients that exceed visitor and client expectations.
- Attend event meetings alongside Hospitality Manager and work with other departments to execute event vision.
- Work with the Hospitality Coordinator to assess food and beverage requirements for events and create purchase orders.
- Attend staff training sessions on procedures, software, and health & safety.
- Create hospitality event packages for staff within our event management software.
- Work with the Hospitality Manager to develop event costings and process event invoices.
- Support hospitality team on event day, such as liaising with caterers, assisting in bar set-up and strike.
- Demonstrate and develop understanding of Liquor Licensing Act and AGCO regulations.
- Oversee day-to-day maintenance of product inventory, equipment, and overall cleanliness of hospitality spaces.
Requirements
As this job is supported by the Canada Summer Jobs wage subsidy, candidates must meet the first 3 requirements below established through the Canada Summer Jobs program, as well as the other following requirements specific to the role scope.
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period.
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment. Please note that international students are not eligible participants of this program, nor are youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, nor those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa.
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
- 1+ years serving/ bartending experience in a theatre or high-volume setting.
- Smart Serve certified.
- Strong verbal communication skills in dealing with public and VIP guests.
- Alertness, keen attention to detail, and an ability to perform many tasks at once.
- Ability to work efficiently within strict timelines in accordance with department expectations.
- Knowledge of the industry AGCO guidelines regarding alcohol service, and an understanding of Harbourfront Centre’s liquor license.
- Restaurant serving experience and/or Food Handler’s certification are considered an asset.
- Experience with F&B POS system is desirable.
- Must have flexibility and availability to work a varying schedule which mainly includes evening and weekends.
