As such, we are seeking an adaptable, confident, organized and responsible Transportation Coordinator to join our team to to support the bussing needs associated with our Camps programs. 

 

Position Title: Transportation Coordinator

Department: Education, Camps

Number of Vacancies: 1

Type of Employment: Seasonal Contract, from April-August 2025. Training starting in mid-June 2025 (part-time hours) with an increase in hours later in the month. Camps run from June 30 -August 30, 2025.

Hours of Work:  Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week (training on weekends may be assigned)

Rate of Pay: $19 per hour

Work Location: On-site at our waterfront campus in Toronto

 

Job Description

The Transportation Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting the Registrar, Camps by managing daily busing operations to ensure smooth and efficient procedures. Key responsibilities include overseeing all aspects of busing operations, including arrivals, departures, monitoring traffic changes, and communicating relevant information to staff and camper families. The role also involves addressing customer care concerns. The Transportation Coordinator will collaborate with a team of bus counselors and facilitators to implement daily busing procedures. Additionally, the incumbent will assist the Camps Office Staff with key office operations to ensure the seamless running of camp activities as needed. 

Duties

  • Act as the main point of contact between Harbourfront Centre Camps and the bus partner, relaying information about bus routes, timing, and any route modifications.
  • Collaborate with the Safety and Security, Grounds, and Operations departments to ensure the safe operation of the bus loop, prioritizing camper and staff safety at all times.
  • Lead daily busing procedures, including monitoring arrivals and departures from over 30 stops throughout Toronto. 
  • Support a team of bus staff including facilitators and counsellors with campers unloading at the beginning of the day end and loading at the end of the day, and monitoring buses on their routes.
  • Address customer service concerns and relay relevant information to the appropriate Harbourfront Centre Camps staff, guardians, and caregivers as needed.
  • In preparation for the Camps season, collaborate with the senior camp team to develop and administer bus staff training, update training modules, and conduct transportation simulations.
  • Assist with the pick-up, organization, and distribution of camp supplies as needed.
  • At the end of the Camps season, work towards standardizing transportation resources and preparing an end-of-season bus route analysis. 
  • Work with the Registrar and Office Administrators to perform general office duties such as attendance verification, updating busing attendance lists, updating the bus hotline, following up on customer concerns and incidents, data entry, and filing. 

Requirements 

  • Currently studying in post-secondary education in a field such as education, the arts, administration, or a related field, or have equivalent experience.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in administration, operational logistics, and/or customer service. 
  • Previous experience in an education setting, daycare, school or camp.
  • Good knowledge of cardinal directions, Toronto neighborhoods, and routes. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt to changing situations and find effective solutions independently. 
  • Ability to remain calm and patient when addressing customer service concerns regarding buses and transportation delays. 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact confidently with guardians, caregivers, staff, and visitors. 
  • Punctual, strong organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively. 
  • Strong focus on ensuring the safety of campers and staff. 
  • Consistently brings a responsible, positive attitude and enthusiasm to each day. 
  • Comfortable using phones and proficient in common computer programs (e.g., MS Word, Excel, email, printers, and laminators).
  • Experience with CRM systems and/or registration database software such as CampBrain is desirable.
  • A valid G-class driver’s license is an asset. 
  • Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification is an asset. 
  • As a condition of employment, a Criminal Background Check (with Vulnerable Sector Check) is required of the successful candidate. The cost of this screening is to be covered by the incumbent;     
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. All international applicants must have a valid employment Visa authorizing their ability to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.    
  • This role is based in Toronto. The candidate must be able to work on site at our lakeside campus.
