We are currently seeking an experienced, driven and results-oriented Assistant Manager, Recreational Learning to provide coordination of operations, logistics and staffing for Harbourfront Centre’s Recreational Learning Department, which includes camps (March Break & Summer).

 

Position Title: Assistant Manager, Recreational Learning
Department: Recreational Learning
Reporting to: Manager, Recreational Learning
Direct reports: Seasonal and part-time program specialists and facilitators, special project staff as required
Type of Employment: Full-Time, 35 hours per week
Location: Toronto

Duties

• Assist the Sr. Manager, Recreational Learning in Full cycle hiring, training, and supervision of seasonal staff (volunteers, coordinator, co-ops, counsellors, directors, supervisors) this may include scheduling, interviewing, reference checks, etc.
• Assist in quality control of camp programming including staff coaching and feedback.
• Coordinate venue space usage for camps, this includes on and off campus spaces. This will include comprehensive use of Artifax event management software.
• Work with Camps Coordinator, to create and maintain a viable schedules for: shuttle schedule, camps specialists, swimming, off-campus trips and off-campus camps
• Create and/or update training manuals.
• Work in conjunction with camp staff to develop program philosophy and objectives, camp structure, general programming, staff morale and development.
• Maintain programming space and files of program documents.
• Ensure the proper supervision of all campers at all times, including last minute changes to work
• Administrative duties such as evaluations, incident/accident reports, scheduling, etc.
• Occasional Support for School Visits programs, welcoming and directing the arrival of schools
• Occasionally Support Harbourfront Centre Sailing and powerboating where programming responsibilities overlap
• Perform other duties of a similar nature and level.

Requirements

• Bachelor and/or Masters Degree in Recreation, Education or related field. Or equivalent
• Minimum 3 years of leadership experience in camp, recreation, or educational environment.
• Experience in the not-for-profit is desirable
• Clear Police Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
• Clean Driver’s Abstract and G Class license is considered an asset
• Programming experience for various learning styles and approaches for various age groups.
• Experience working with individuals with Special Needs (Inclusion) is desirable
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to supervise diverse staff groups and to liaise with other departments and outside stakeholders.
• Exceptional organizational skills to coordinate multiple activities and programs.
• Outstanding relationship-management skills, including the ability to work closely and collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.
• A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people-management skills.
• Exceptional leadership, staff management, and team-building skills, including the ability to manage employees in order to drive results and achieve top performance.
• Familiarity with Ontario Camps Association (OCA) and accreditation process & standards is desirable.
• Commitment to youth education and life long learning.
• Ability to absorb new ideas and concepts quickly and to ensure they are clearly communicated to an audience
• Knowledge of Canada’s arts community is desirable
• Standard First Aid and CPR-C is considered an asset
• Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. All international applicants must have a valid employment Visa authorizing their ability to work in Canada on a full-time, ongoing basis.
• This role is based in Toronto. The candidate must be able to work on site at our lakeside campus, however a hybrid-work model might be taken into consideration.
