About

Older & Reckless, Moonhorse Dance Theatre’s acclaimed series, returns to the Harbourfront Centre stage this fall as it celebrates its 25th anniversary, featuring 4 dance works curated by Artistic Director Allison Cummings.

Moonhorse Dance Theatre actively redefines destructive assumptions about age and dance ability, celebrating artists over 45 who continuously take risks, ask pertinent questions and dig deep into nuance.

The program features dance works by acclaimed dance artists Marc Boivin with Louise Bédard (Montreal), Sonia Rodriguez in a new solo by William Yong (Toronto), Julia Sasso in a highly anticipated remount by Carol Anderson (Toronto), and a new dance created by Jenn Goodwin for this year’s Community Performance Project, featuring over 20 mature dance enthusiasts. This year, to mark our 25th anniversary of Older & Reckless, we will be putting together a special video presentation to celebrate the work and artists presented over the years.

About Moonhorse Dance Theatre

Moonhorse Dance Theatre was founded in 1996 by renowned Canadian dance artist Claudia Moore. Originally formed as a vehicle to present her own artistic work, the company was shifted to its established mandate for the presentation of mature artists over the age of 45. Under Claudia Moore’s vision, Moonhorse Dance Theatre developed into an important dance organization providing lifelong artists of all contemporary dance forms opportunities for presentation, commissions, teaching and professional development.

Following 25 years at the helm, Claudia Moore stepped aside as AD and the role was filled by Toronto Dance Artist Allison Cummings.

Currently, Moonhorse Dance Theatre continues the legacy of Older & Reckless. Other offerings include Dance Encounters, dance classes for both dance enthusiasts and professionals alike; workshops for the professional community facilitated by renowned artists; and Crossing the Streams, an interdisciplinary exchange program.

We hold and form working relationships with dance organizations in our community in the spirit of partnership and cohesiveness in the sector.

About experimental audio description

As a special offering, live experimental audio description is offered on Saturday, November 22nd at the 8pm performance.

Local writers Keira Loughran, Lindsay Zier-Vogel, Rebecca Singh and Sean Dixon have worked in consultation with Christine Malec, to create experimental description for each piece in the evening’s presentation.

Combined with traditional description of what’s literally happening on stage, our describers will venture into subjective and emotional ways of conveying meaning and feeling, in an attempt to re-create the visuals of what the sighted audience experiences, and the emotional impact of each piece.

This work has been made possible by the generous support of The Metcalf Foundation.

The performance is approximately 90 minutes long without an intermission.

Complimentary admission is provided for one support person and additional requests are addressed on a case by case basis.

Please call (416) 973-4000 or email audienceservice@harbourfrontcentre.com:
