Overview

Living in Colour is a 40-minute documentary that discusses and analyzes the Black community’s past, present and potential future across Canada. It features conversations regarding Caribbean and African cultures in the GTA, the growth and source of Black pop culture and the presence of Black identity in North America. Olivia Hutchinson, Marcus Walkes, Atiya Williams and Jaylah A. Hall interview and have conversations with Black men, women and youth across the York Region to explore different perspectives on these topics that exist within their community, with hopes of learning more about the truth in past and modern Afro-Canadian history.

Join us in our Studio Theatre for a screening of Living in Colour, followed by an inspiring panel discussion with Atiya Williams, Olivia Hutchinson, Jaylah A. Hall and Marcus Walkes.

About the Black Rivers Alliance

The Black Rivers Alliance is a Black youth leadership committee at the Newmarket African Caribbean Canadian Association. Our goal is to work toward the emancipation of Black youth from the embodiment of Black historical trauma and to redefine what it truly means to be raw, undiluted and consciously Black. As it is youth-led, each youth in our committee works together to do this by utilizing conversation, advocating for our learning and the learning of others in our community, and delivering presentations, workshops and projects to help us grow and establish newness and growth as Black youth.
