About

In this class, participants will learn the basics of dyeing wool with natural materials. We will be working with 5 different natural sources of dye: Lac (Pink/Red), Logwood (Purple), Cutch (Cool Brown), Weld (Yellow), and Brazilwood (Bright Red).

The first of two session will be spent preparing our yarn to be died by washing and mordanting, and extracting some of the colours we will be using. The second will be spent finishing the extractions and the begin the dyeing process! Each student will leave with five unique, 22.5g, hanks of rich and vibrant yarn.

This class is a Beginner level course; experience in felting, knitting, crochet, or weaving is an asset.

Yes, any cancellations 5+ business days away from the start date of when your workshop begins is eligible for a refund.

Our studios are dedicated to our full-time Artists-in-Residence program; no studio access is allowed outside of the residency. The only exception is participants taking classes, who may only remain in the studio during actual class time.

You must apply for the program, follow the guidelines and meet the criteria required of applicants. This information can be found on our website (Residency Program Information) page. Applications open once a year in January and close in March.

The Craft & Design studios are 18+ only. However, we do have a craft-focused program through our School Visits department that specializes in that. For more information, you can visit the School Visits page on our website.
