The Performing Arts Technical Residency Program aims to support the development of artistic creations within dance, theatre, circus and interdisciplinary work at a stage when the works can benefit from experimenting with production elements in a venue.
In response to feedback received from the performing arts community, while building on the legacy of HATCH and other Harbourfront Centre residencies such as the Craft & Design Artists-in-Residence, the Performing Arts Technical Residency Program will occur throughout the year and in selected Harbourfront Centre theatre venues, pending availability.
The residencies are technical in format. Mostly one week-long in duration, they provide essential production support in a theatre venue at a stage of the project’s development. Residencies are for projects that have already gone through at least the first phase of creation and are on their way to production and final presentation.

Benefits
Access
Work for five days in one of Harbourfront Centre’s selected theatre venues, pending availability and upon an agreed schedule. Theatre venues are the Fleck Dance Theatre and the Harbourfront Centre Theatre.
Venue Fee
Harbourfront Centre waives the venue rental fee for the duration of the technical residency.
Artist Fee
Harbourfront Centre will award successful candidates an artistic residency fee of $5,000 (Canadian).
Production Costs
Harbourfront Centre will award successful candidates a subsidy of a maximum of $4,500 (Canadian) against Harbourfront Centre technical and operational staff costs. Any additional technical and operational staff costs above this amount will be charged to the successful candidates.
Travel, Accomodation, Per Diems and Parking
Harbourfront Centre does not cover travel, accommodation, per diems and parking costs.
Venue Equipment List
Harbourfront Centre has updated equipment lists on its venues and this will be shared with successful applicants.
Harbourfront Centre also acknowledges that technical requirements are specific to each project in residency and will be discussed before the residency period to ensure artists have the in-venue support they require.
