Textile Arts – Community Activism

How can a collaborative work of art evoke social change within a community?

Program Description

Students will learn how textile arts can bring communities together and encourage collaboration. Students will be presented with historical and contemporary artworks that advocate for social change. Students will create a two-dimensional textile work that brings awareness to a social justice issue within their community.

Program Objectives

By the end of the Textile Arts – Community Activism program, students will:

  • Explore historical and contemporary artworks that have encouraged collaboration, social change and awareness.
  • Experiment with recycled fabrics and collage techniques.
  • Produce a two-dimensional textile work that brings awareness to a social justice issue within their community.
