Program Description

In this full-day program, students gain an in-depth understanding of the elements of hip-hop: DJing, MCing/rapping, graffiti and dancing. Students will explore the roots of hip hop as well as the contemporary impact of hip hop culture today. They will explore how hip hop is used as a tool for self-expression. 

Program Objectives

By the end of the Dance: Understanding Hip Hop program, students will:

  • Learn about the origins and legacy of hip-hop culture.
  • Explore the four elements of hip-hop culture through a range of multidisciplinary activities.
  • Be introduced to a range of hip-hop vocabulary.
  • Learn dance techniques and choreography.
