Leadership Counsellor-in-Training

Ready to expand your leadership skills? This CIT program is an intensive and challenging adventure in leadership, personal development and achievement. 

With the guidance of our staff, CITs will further refine their leadership skills in a supportive setting, with generous feedback and mentorship. CITs will receive one week of programming workshops and training before embarking on their first placement. This week will focus on learning about supervision, communication, cooperative games, initiative tasks, anti-bullying, camper management and conflict resolution. CITs will continue to personalize their leadership style while promoting team building and friendships. 

CITs will complete 3 separate week-long placements in various Harbourfront Centre camps, where they will shadow a working counsellor and begin their own program planning and interaction with campers as a leader! CITs will work with a variety of age groups in a variety of camps. CITs will come together for one full day per week during their placements to reflect on their experiences and engage in programming designed to prepare them to work as counsellors in the future. CITs will receive weekly evaluations so that they receive ongoing and consistent feedback. 

Please note: Applications are accepted through our website. Space in this program is limited, and only successful candidates will be asked to join us. Applications are due by May 15, 2024. Once you have chosen the session, CIT applicants will be asked to complete an application form to aid in the selection of appropriate participants. Applications after May 15 will be considered subject to availability. Successful applicants will be informed no later than June 1, 2024. 

Upon completion of the 4 week program, CITs will receive 85 volunteer hours for their camp placements. CITs who successfully complete the program will receive an interview with Harbourfront Centre Camps the following season, provided they properly apply for the positions available on our website here.

* Please note: There are no camps on Monday, July 1 and Monday, August 5 due to statutory holidays.

SWIMMINGCampers swim for about one hour per session (weather permitting). Campers swimming ability will be asked for as part of the registration process, and any camp that participates in swimming activities will have their swimming ability tested prior to planned swimming activity.
