Ready to expand your leadership and paddling skills? This specialized IIT volunteer program is for participants interested in paddling, childcare and education. With the guidance of our staff, IITs will further refine their leadership skills in a supportive setting with generous feedback and mentorship. IITs will attend Pre-Camp Training Week before embarking on their first placement. This week will focus on learning about supervision, communication, cooperative games, initiative tasks, anti-bullying, camper management and conflict resolution. IITs will also get to refine their paddling skills and understand the day-to-day operations of canoe and kayak camps on-land and on-water.
IITs will complete a minimum of two week-long placements at canoe and kayak camps where they will shadow a working Instructor or Junior Instructor and begin their own interaction with campers as a leader! IITs will assist with daily equipment preparation, maintenance and clean-up. IITs will come together at the end of each week during their placements, to reflect on their experiences. IITs will also receive weekly evaluations so that they receive ongoing and consistent feedback.
Please note: Applicants will be asked to fill out an application form to aid in the selection of appropriate participants. Canoe and Kayak Camps occur in Toronto’s inner harbour and around our Toronto Islands. Weather permitting, every marine camp will spend most of its time on the water or Toronto Islands. Please take the opportunity to explore a unique setting under the guidance of our well-trained and experienced instructors.
Please Note: All campers in our marine programs are provided with a Personal Floatation Device (PFD) while at camp and that the proper use of the PFD is strictly enforced. Participants are welcome to use their own Canada-approved PFDs should they have them.Register Now
