Mose Desmoulins is an Ojibway man from Biigtigong Nishnaabeg First Nation (formerly Pic River). In 2020, he graduated from Toronto Metropolitan University with a Bachelor of Arts in Sport Media Production. Over the past five years, he’s helped bring many new commercial products to market and worked on marketing campaigns for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Marlies, TSN, Bardown and many more.
Desmoulins uses his artistic practice to explore how imagery and symbols within popular culture influence our everyday thinking and beliefs. The research and work created through his residency will explore and confront the appropriation of Indigenous culture by sports teams in their names and mascots, finding ways to reclaim and rewrite these harmful cultural and historical narratives.
Desmoulins will continue to grow his practice as an upcoming Artist-in-Residence within the Harbourfront Centre’s Craft and Design program and as a member of the Toronto Art Foundation’s ArtWorksTO program.
Desmoulins became an Artist-in-Residence at Harbourfront Centre in 2023.
