Torque is Harbourfront Centre’s recognized international contemporary dance series, inviting dance lovers to experience outstanding contemporary dance from international and Canadian artists.

Since its inception in 2018, Torque has presented an annual season of five to six performances from October to May, specially curated to highlight internationally diverse and Indigenous choreographers, including Hofesh Shechter Company, Lucy Guerin, Louise Lecavalier (Fou Glorieux), Order of Canada member Santee Smith (Kahawi Dance Theatre) and many more. Spanning across the globe, from North America to South Africa, France, the UK, Scandinavia and Australia, every Torque performance is an exclusive Toronto premiere, where choreographers are introduced to the city and its audiences for the first time.

Hosted at the Fleck Dance Theatre and the Harbourfront Centre Theatre, the series offers a provocative and memorable program of new and internationally celebrated works that capture myriad aesthetic approaches and choreographic languages that are relevant to our cultural times.

Through commissions, residencies and presentations, Torque also supports the creation of new works by Toronto choreographers.

Through its programming, artist meet-and-greets, post-show talks and masterclasses with guest choreographers, Torque offers numerous opportunities for audiences to expand their experience of contemporary dance in its many forms.
